Our office utilizes up-to-date contact lenses to prevent oxygen deprivation in your eyes; the most common cause of eye infection and dry eye. We also use specialty contact lenses to treat medical eye problems.
What are scleral lenses?
Scleral lenses are large rigid-surface contact lenses that are custom designed and computer lathed for each individual patient. The scleral lenses are used for managing certain eye diseases such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal cornea degeneration or other irregular corneas in order to correct blurry vision which is uncorrectable with regular glasses or contacts.
What is the typical scleral lens prescribing process like and what happened after scleral lens is prescribed?
Utilization of a corneal topographer helps design the customized scleral lens. Lens parameter changes until the optimal fit and vision are achieved. The final lens is a one-of-a-kind unique to each patient’s eye. It is important to follow up with the eye care practitioner for the long-term ocular health and scleral lens success. Improper handling and wearing of the scleral lenses can damage the eyesight.
